Answer: Once the woods are cut from trees and chopped into boards, they should enter the dry kiln for drying. In the process of making solid wood furniture, if the moisture of the wood evaporates, the furniture will crack on ends, and the wood will contract, twist and even get deformed. Some people would say, “We can dry the wood in the sun.” Yes, some people who make low-end countryside style furniture may use this method, but it is not advisable. First of all, the sun-dried woods are not dried by high temperature, so in humid weather they absorb a lot of moisture very easily, while in dry weather the moisture would run off. The absorption and release of moisture will influence the durability of the furniture. In addition, for furniture made with sun-dried wood, its moisture content is very difficult to be controlled below 14%. Generally, furniture manufacturing requires that timbers be dried by high temperature in dry kiln. In this way the moisture content of timber can be controlled at the required percentage. Meanwhile, due to high temperature drying, the moisture absorption of the timber can be reduced dramatically.
