Introduction of Tony and Great Progress
In 1980s, Tony was a teacher in Guangzhou University, and worked as the Director of Guangdong Biology and Physics Academy. In late 1980s, he worked as the superintendent of Pearl Rive Economy Research Institute. He once joined in the research for economic and social development in some counties and towns of Guangdong Province. In early 1990s, he took up trading service in a Central American company, where he got used to thinking and working as Westerners. In late 1990s, he was appointed by the board of directors to manage the furniture factory in China, and fully administer production and some work concerning technology. During this period, he gained rich experience of managing Chinese factory.
Later, the company decided to move to higher-level industry, and finally selected high-end service industry. The company consigned Tony to design a set of methods for controlling factories of furniture, furniture accessories, lights and technology consultation, basing on the advantage that Great Progress was better than other factories in technology and management.
When designing the methods, Tony visited many Chinese furniture factories, and found that their management was poor, technology was not comprehensive, and their staff were of very low educational background. They do not product according to the modern industrial mass production, but still taking the outdated way, in which the masters went to the household to make furniture. Everyone comprehends the sample making in their own way. The superiors of working line work as masters to instructing the workers, which Tony calls the mode of ¡°Master taking apprentice¡±. Masters instruct according their own understanding, while workers work according their own. Different masters have different understanding, so do the workers. Therefore, even for the same batch of products, there are many differences. In addition, there are many procedures in furniture production. The error in the former procedures will lead to defective or waster in the following procedures. If there are many unqualified products, the factory will not repair or re-produce due to the high cost. They have to put the defectives and wasters on the container and deliver to the customer. Research shows that for each batch, the defectives and wasters rate is about 30% to 40%.
The modern industrial mass production should be: design the product drawings first, and then study the whole set of production technique. Meanwhile, QC Department should work out an over-all quality control standard according to the drawings, technical data from the Technical Department and the whole set production technique from the Technique and Craft Department. In this way, the product quality is good, quality discrepancy is slight. Even for different batches, the quality discrepancy will not be much.
Basing on this survey, Tony made some research and designed a set of controlling methods to decrease the defectives and wasters rate. Now Great Progress can make sure the qualified rate of export furniture above 98%.
Although this service was born, but the Chinese factories are not willing to pay for consulting fee like the European and US comprise. This service has no market in China. Then, Tony combines this service with the furniture purchasing of overseas buyers, and provide overseas businessmen with technical, quality control and order trailing service. Meanwhile, Great Progress also represents overseas company to instruct the factories to finish the orders, and give suggestion concerning technology, technique and management. What¡¯s more, Great Progress is the first company provides 100% full inspection before packing in China mainland and Hongkong. After Great Progress decide to move to high-end service industry, he quits the manufacturing industry, and put all efforts on quality control. For the pass few years, we apply this set of service, which is designed specially for overseas customers, to some European, US, Austrian, New Zealand customers. We earn high appraisal, and make the sales of our customers keep rising.
